6 Indigenous models to follow on Instagram

Each July, NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia to commemorate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

To celebrate, we wanted to take a look at some of Australia's Indigenous models. From the names you know, the up-and-comers and even those who have given up the catwalk to pursue other dreams, here are just a few of the gorgeous faces who currently make up the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander modelling scene in Australia.


1. Samantha Harris

After a 19-year strong career, Samantha Harris is one of the biggest names in Australian fashion.

Harris is the second Aboriginal woman, after Elaine George (1993), to land a Vogue cover. Samantha began her career through Girlfriend magazine at just 11 years old.


2. Sarsha Chisholm

@sarshachisholm_

Sarsha is a Perth based model and while she’s only been agency signed for a few years, Chisholm has already worked for some BIG brands including Target, Myer and M.A.C Cosmetics, as well as landing a RUSSH magazine cover.

3. Cassie Puruntatameri

@cassieblack__

Cassie Puruntatameri was born in the Northern Territory’s Tiwi Islands, a remote community of fewer than 450 people.

She was scouted by Perina Drummond of Jira Models after arriving in Melbourne on a one-way plane ticket.


4. Serene Dharpaloco Djapunun Yunupingu

Serene Dharpaloco Djapunun Yunupingu comes from the Boorooberongal clan of the Dharug Nation, western Sydney and the Gumatj Clan in North East Arnhem Land, Yolngu people.

Dubs has worked for some pretty big names including David Jones and Wish Magazine.


5. Kiesha Bovill

Kiesha grew up on Darkinjung country on the Central Coast, NSW and is a proud Kamillaroi woman.

You may have spotted Kiesha recently on the runway at AUS Fashion Week, she's also shot for some incredible names including Bonds and has featured in Vogue and Russh Magazine.


6. Shaneiva Chatfield

Shaneiva is a proud Gamilaroi Woman and a very passionate artist who uses her art as a way to amplify the Indigenous voice of Australia.

Shaneiva has shot for some of the biggest brands in Australia including Mimco and Vogue Magazine, and has walked in Aus Fashion Week.
